The pressure envelope is the deciding factor
Two motors in the same family can be close in displacement and differ in what pressure they will take. The TMT 500 is rated 250 bar continuous, 325 bar intermittent and 375 bar peak, against 350 and 400 bar for the 400, 470 and 250 frames. Continuous torque is the same as the 470 at 1,770 N·m, but the short-term headroom is smaller.
That makes the 500 a good match for functions that run continuously against a steady load, such as a drum or rotor drive, and a poorer match for work that consists of short, heavily loaded pushes. Where shock loads dominate, sizing at 400 or 470 keeps more pressure in reserve.

Why is the pressure rating lower than the 470?The 500 frame is rated 250 bar continuously, 325 bar intermittently and 375 bar at peak, against 250 / 350 / 400 bar for the 250, 315, 400 and 470. Displacement is similar to the 470 - 494.8 against 477.3 cm³ - so the practical difference is headroom, not torque.
What flow does this motor need?125 L/min maximum continuous and 150 L/min intermittent, which at rated speed and pressure gives 35 kW continuous and 42 kW intermittent output.
Can it be used in a closed loop transmission?Yes, and where oil renewal and cooling are required in a closed circuit, specify the integrated flushing valve version. High permitted return pressure also reduces the need for a separate drain line on many installations.
